THE LADY CHRIS 8 TUNA VESSEL BENEDICTION

PAPEETE, December 21st, 2018 – Benediction of the Lady Chris 8 with President Fritch and High Commissioner René Bidal on Thursday at the fishing port of Fare ute.

The tuna vessel operated by the company Moarii & Sons Fisheries was built locally. The sea, and by extension the blue economy, is essential for French Polynesia.
Since the end of the fishing agreements with foreign ships, our fishery has developed itself. In just over two decades, it has evolved from artisanal fishing to professional offshore fishing, recently awarded with the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) label.

The Lady Chris 8 ship, which was blessed Thursday afternoon in the presence of President Edouard Fritch and part of the government, is a good example of this development. It is built locally, operated by Polynesian crews, and its products are processed locally either for the local market or for export.
